Farnham & District Ramblers

South-west Surrey

Anne Pullinger led the 3.5 mile walk on 24th August, 2016 which attracted 16 Ramblers. The walk started with a brief talk about Jane Austen and her novel Emma. We also looked at some buildings associated with Jane Austen; Prowtings, Clinkers, Jane Austen's house museum, St.Nicholas' church where her Mother and sister are buried in the churchyard and Chawton House Library, where her brother Edward lived, Jane being a regular visitor at that time. Anne gave a brief talk on each. We carried on with our walk stopping at Farringdon church half way around and then walked back to Chawton on a disused railway path on what was a very hot day. Nine of the group had a pub lunch afterwards and 5 visited the exhibition celebrating Emma at 200 at Chawton house library.
