Footpath Work

We organise a regular maintenance programme on a week day in the summer months.  This consists of working parties whose aim is to:

  • repair stiles

  • erect finger posts

  • clear vegetation

  • general maintenance of paths

This work is always done in co-operation with the Rights of 'Way team who supply tools, equipment - and refreshment!  It is also entirely possible for us to complete the days tasks by undertaking an arduous trip to the local pub!

If interested please contact John Plympton on 01252 725661 or by mobile on 07939 601174

If you encounter a path in the local area that needs attention please report any difficulties to our Footpath Secretary - John Plympton using the online form on this site

Special Event

Countryside Access Volunteers' Training Day - 17th November 2006

Around 18 Farnham Ramblers out of about 55 in total, attended a training day run by Surrey County Council.  The morning was taken up with tasks covering installation of structures and safe working.  After a pleasant lunch the afternoon session covered the Value of Areas of outstanding natural beauty (ANOB), the responsibilities of land owners, the role of volunteers, the law and safe lifting practices.  A thoroughly enjoyable day which enabled a lot to be covered.

Visit the slide show to see what happened on the day.

Forthcoming Project Work

Thursley Common

Anne and John walked from The Moat onto Thursley Common in January 2007 to take some photos and see how things are progressing as far as repairs are concerned.  Nothing seems to have been done yet but the grasses are recovering slowly, not much bird life though.

The pictures were kindly provided by Anne Pullinger
