
Despite mixed weather and some muddy conditions, Farnham Ramblers’ Festival of Winter Walks attracted a total of 295 people on walks from Christmas Day through to the New Year bank holiday. There were 10 walks during the week between 3 and 10 miles in areas ranging from Ash to Aldershot, Farnham Park to Alice Holt Forest, and Waggoners Wells to Blackdown. A Christmas Lunch took place on Wednesday 7th December 2011 at The Forest Inn, near Farnham. This was a great lunch organised by Colin, great food by the Foresters and at £11.99 best price in town. Pictures kindly contributed by David Fisher.
The
200,000th Ramblers Walksfinder Walk was hosted Farnham &
District Ramblers, and started at Abbots Wood car park in Alice Holt
Forest on Thursday 13th October. Ted Smiley led the 7½ mile
circular walk. At the start of the walk, Ted presented a plaque to
Brenda Horwill, representing The Ramblers Association, in recognition of
this, the 200,000 walk recorded on the Ramblers Walksfinder website.
The walkers stopped for a lunch break at the Lindford Sports ground where they were welcomed with a glass of sparkling wine to refresh their spirits and give them energy for their return! Pictures kindly contributed by Liz Witham and John Hemsley.

A short
walk from Shepherd and Flock was led on 6th July by Anne Pullinger. The walk
was in memory of John McQuinn who sadly passed away in May 2011.
The third part of Godfrey Howard and Mike Desborough’s series of Ridgeway walks took place on 4th June. 26 members walked the 12 miles from Ogbourne St George to Avebury passing by Barbury Castle iron age fort along the way. Avebury is home to the largest stone circle in the world – and also to a nice National Trust café (and pub). Picture of this kindly contributed by Mike Desborough.
It is with great sadness that we have to report the sad
passing of one of the Farnham Ramblers, John McQuinn. Some fairly recent
pictures over the last two years are here on the website. The funeral was on
Friday 20th May.

Champagne walks, celebrating the Ramblers 75th birthday
The first was on the sunny 7th July when Peter led us around Churt for 3 miles and we enjoyed champagne or Bucks Fizz in the luxury of his garden. The second was on the damp and windy St Swithun's Day, 15th July around Pitch Hill and we needed the fizz after climbing a steep ravine at Jelleys Hollow.

This annual coach ramble took place on Sunday 19th July, 2009 - this year's destination being Canterbury. A choice of walks - 10, 7 or 4 miles in length was on offer or the option of spending in the day in the city.

Thirty intrepid ramblers from Farnham, other groups and friends descended on London in rather inclement weather on our Saturday special ramble on 8th November which took in the 'Walk for Diana' and the Lord Mayor's Procession, pictures of which have been kindly provided by Nick Houston

The Green Sand Way underpass of the A3 at Thursley was opened by the Highways Agency on Friday 10th October at Noon. To mark the occasion the Highways Agency invited ramblers, horseriders, cyclists and local people to a short ceremony at the underpass. The second Real Ale Special Walk took place on Saturday 4th August, 2007. The 8 mile circular ramble started in Alton going via Upper and Lower Farringdon and Chawton.
